Picture book presenting the true story of African American equal rights activist Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jennings Graham. Born a free woman in New York City, Lizzie was late for church one day when she tried to board a street car and was denied a seat due to her skin color, even though there were plenty open. Lizzie took her case to court and won, paving the way for future women to take a stand, or a seat, for the civil rights movement.
