After his family is kidnapped, Abdi is forced to become a child soldier for Al Shabaab. Since his older brother is also part of the jihadist group, they trust him, but they don't know that he is also a spy for the Americans. He trains with the group, witnesses atrocities, and beginning to wonder if he's becoming like them. Eventually he escapes, but he still must reckon with his past.
