Riley's mom has disappeared, and at the end of his wits, Riley turns to the Whispers, mythical creatures in the woods his mom told him once grant people's hearts' desires if only they bring the Whispers tribute. The Whispers tell Riley his mother is near, and Riley decides he will pay whatever the cost--even if it means revealing the secret he has been hiding that he thinks is the reason why his mother left.
