In 1939, four orphans escape from the Home for Friendless Children. One of them, Lucy, doesn't speak and no one knows why. The orphans manage to find spots at a traveling circus, where Lucy discovers that she loves taking care of the elephants. But in order to do so, she must be able to speak in order to warn the other circus workers of dangers. As Lucy struggles to find her voice, different people are searching for Lucy, and the truth behind her unwillingness to speak is revealed.
