Ragnvald Eysteinsson, a son of kings, is betrayed by men in the pay of his stepfather, Olaf, and left for dead in the water off the coast of Ireland after raiding there. Ragnvald is rescued by a fisherman and swears vengeance on his stepfather and to rescue his sister Svanhild. To do that he will need the help of Harald of Vestfold, the prophesied future ruler of all of Norway. However, Svanhild yearns for freedom on her own terms.
