After defeating the Man in the Black Cloak, Serafina settles into life at the Biltmore Estate with her adoptive human parents and her best friend, Braeden Vanderbilt. Though she establishes a fairly normal existence by day, she meets with her shape-shifting mother each night to learn the ways of her ancestors. When three mysterious strangers come to the area, animals begin disappearing, the trees weep a tar-like substance, and Serafina is attacked by wolfhounds. Soon Serafina realizes she will need every ounce of courage to face down an evil threatening her home, those she loves, and all of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
