Alex has somewhat of a split personality, one which thinks she is a girl, the other which thinks he's a boy. Slowly, painfully, the girl-persona wins out. Alex changes schools, gets new clothes, and tries to deal with the fallout of her parents' and friends' confusion. However, the other Alex is still alive and well, making his or her decisions that much harder.
