People have been interested in Earth for nearly as long as they've lived on it. Early scientists wanted to find out how old the Earth was, how land formations were made, and what they were made of. Others were interested in fossils, rocks, and minerals. These studies helped teach people what Earth looked like in the past and what it might look like in the future.
