Another ice age is coming upon the world. Food and fuel are scarce, and fifteen-year-old Polish girl Magda Krol cannot remember the last time she felt warm. One dreadful night her village is evacuated, but she is left behind. Determined to survive, Magda begins an overland journey first to Krakow, then across the ocean to London, where rumors speak of heat and food, and perhaps even Magda's long-lost mother.
