A novel which imagines the Civil War experiences of Mr. March, the father of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women." Despite his cheerful letters home while serving in the Union army, he becomes appalled by the cruelties he witnesses, which challenge his beliefs and change his outlook on humanity.
