Eleven-year-old Jeff Michaels is just learning about soccer at his new middle school, playing on the sixth-grade team. He is not very good--but Andrea Carillo, a girl who fought her way onto the team, is one of the best players out there. Their coach thinks girls should not play with boys, though, so both Andrea and and Jeff are benchwarmers. Jeff decides to do something about that--he gets his dad, a Philadelphia TV sports reporter, to mobilize the Philly media to get the story out, but soon that sparks bullying for Andrea, and the media firestorm will test both Jeff and Andrea's resolve.
