The remarkable shot was taken at harrowing personal risk. Capa's photograph came to represent the final stages of World War II to the world. Already a notable war photographer, Capa was one of the few photojournalists who disembarked on the beach that day. His famous shot, along with a few others from that roll of film, are the only images that survive from Omaha Beach on D-Day.
